Medical Pain Reduction

Atlantic Spine Clinic’s first objective is to provide non-surgical pain relief to our patients, as quickly as possible. Many patients find that this type of treatment is a working alternative to surgery or medication, and it allows them to have functional reduced pain or pain-free activities of daily living. This reduction in pain is achieved through the coordinated efforts of our Board-Certified Chiropractic Physicians and  Physician Assistant, who have the ability to provide advanced medical services that quickly and effectively improve pain levels. By incorporating a medical approach, Atlantic Spine Clinic can alleviate symptoms faster, which opens the door to more effective rehabilitation, in a shorter time frame, with more longevity.  This is achieved through the following medical services:

DME/Active Bracing

Atlantic Spine Clinic has the ability to distribute Active Braces, or Durable Medical Equipment (DME), to our patients for support during acute pain situations. Many people cringe at the thought of a brace, but we have carefully tested and selected only products that will allow for activity, such as walking, Cross-Fit, golfing, etc., to continue safely while allowing the injured area to be supported effectively. Our DME/Active Bracing is an assortment of top of the line DonJoy and Aspen products, and is much of the same elite level equipment that you would find in  professional sports leauges like the NFL and MLB. Goals: reduce pain, continue normal activities safely.

TENS/E-Stimulation

Transcutaneous Electrical Nervous Stimulation (TENS) and Electrical Muscle Stimulation units are also available for distribution at Atlantic Spine Clinic. These are top of the line combination units that allow for the use of TENS settings during acute cycles to reduce pain and irritation, and E-Stim once pain levels are controlled and muscle activation (strengthening) or deactivation (fatiguing) is warranted. These units provide safe and effective therapy to be performed at home, in the office, or during travel. Goals: reduce pain, inflammation, and muscle spasm.

Trigger Point/Small and Large Joint Injections

Trigger Point Injections, intended to relieve pain and muscle spasms during acute pain cycles, are also performed at Atlantic Spine Clinic by our licensed Physician Assistant. Our Trigger Point consists of Lidocaine and Marcaine. There are no steroids or pre-mixed compounds in our Trigger Point Injections. These injections help to quickly reduce pain and muscle spasm, and to speed up recovery times so that we can be more aggressive with our therapeutic exercises once pain levels have become more tolerable. Small and large joint injections of Lidocaine or Hyaluronic Acid can also be performed to improve joint mobility and function, by reducing pain and increasing the lubricating fluid inside the joint.  Goals: break pain-cycle, reduce muscle spasms and inflammation.

Environmental/Nutritional Allergy Testing

Atlantic Spine Clinic also has the ability to test for chronic inflammation (ex. gluten intolerance) via Environmental/Nutritional Allergy testing. Skin allergy testing for environmental sensitivity as well as the OAT, AIMS and ALCAT tests targeting food intolerances are also offered and can be covered by some insurance providers. Exploring these potential inflammatory problems provides valuable, and often game changing results about overlooked, contributory factors to pain, fatigue, headaches, digestive disorders, inability to lose weight, and more. Frequently, patients who come to our office complaining of chronic pain, suffer from intolerances to food that they are unaware of. By tailoring these unique and specialized tests to meet the patient's needs, we are able to create a clear and effective treatment plan that incorporates the whole-person, leading to optimized therapy and long-term results. Goals: discover damaging metabolic conditions, eliminate inflammatory causes, increase quality of life.
