This exercise is one we often recommend to patient's who are dealing with low back pain, tightness, stiffness, sciatica, hip pain, and radiculopathy or paraesthesias. The purpose of this stretch is to target and lengthen the psoas muscles (hip flexors), which are engaged and in a shortened position while in a seated position. The over activity of this muscle usually perpetuates an anterior tilted lumbar and pelvic spine, increasing posterior lumbar region pressure.
