In a previous blog, we talked about how to train for a 5k race (I Hate Running blog). Hopefully the blog got you motivated to get up and move. If not, there’s still time to get out in this beautiful fall weather and move towards checking off a 5k race off the bucket list!
For beginners, making sure you properly stretch after a run is key! Stretching before a run?? That is up for debate depending on who you talk to. The one thing you really need to remember before you start your workout is to get the blood flowing so your muscles can warm up. Take a 5 minute walk before you pick up the pace. This will increase circulation throughout your body and the blood will be able to go through the muscles easier. After your run, take 5 minutes and walk again. This will bring your heart down so you can take an extra 10 minutes to stretch out your thighs, calves, and feet without all of the “huffing” and “puffing”.
There are a lot of popular races coming up in the Charleston area over the next 3 months and here at Atlantic Spine Clinic in Mount Pleasant, SC, we want to make sure that all of your aches and pains are in check. We also want to wish all of our patient’s luck this weekend participating in the Race for the Cure. Also, our very own Kyli Sullivan and Samantha Howell are racing in Columbia for the Color Me Rad 5k! This will be Sam’s FIRST race!! Good luck to all!!
